Ms. Rossi, I find it very disingenuous that you completely failed to write anything, anything, regarding the nature of Cuba's regime. Over six decades of dictatorship, with political prisoners and no freedoms whatsoever, be it speech, press, assembly, etc etc. As bad as Batista was, Castro and his successors have been demonstrably worse, by far. I realize that blaming the U.S., and specifically the embargo, for all of Cuba's problems, is the chic thing to do. It is however, false and misleading. As for Gitmo, the treaty is clear. Leased in perpetuity with the right to extend held by the U.S. We shouldn't give it back until Cuba is a democracy.
Thank you for commenting. Actually I did note that Fidel nationalized US interests -- and was very snuggly with the Soviets. I think that gives insight into the regime -- and the conflict with US. I'm trying not to judge or criticize any leaders in this. The Bay of Pigs attack was so poorly planned, that I do dig a little at CIA -- also with running black sites. I don't at all blame the US embargo for Cuba's problems -- and I don't think that was implied. What I'm trying to do is just state what happened. But I try to not pass judgement on that either.
